About City

Barcelona, a city with Roman roots, became the county seat of Barcelona in the Middle Ages. Barcelona, which remained the capital of the Principality of Catalonia, joined forces with the Kingdom of Aragon to form the confederation of the Crown of Aragon. Barcelona rose to prominence as the confederation's most significant city and the main economic and administrative hub, only to be surpassed by Valencia, which the Catalans wrested from Arab rule just before the dynastic union between the Crowns of Castile and Aragon in 1492. Barcelona is a significant cultural hub and a popular tourist destination nowadays due to its rich cultural legacy. The architectural creations of Antoni Gaud and Llus Domènech I Montaner, both of which have been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are particularly well-known. The University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University, two of Spain's most esteemed universities, are located in the city. Barcelona serves as the Union for the Mediterranean's administrative centre. The city is renowned for holding several major sporting events, as well as the 1992 Summer Olympics, prestigious conferences, and expositions.
